A Study on Spatial Transformation and Revitalization Activities in Textile Wholesale District in Transition, Maruyama Oukoku;Manabe Rikutaro;Murayama Akito;Okata Junichiro, Journal of the City Planning Institute of Japan, 52, 2, 161, 168, 25 Oct. 2017, The City Planning Institute of Japan, This study takes two textile wholesale districts in transition and aims to understand the spatial transformation and the revitalization activities in the districts, and the relation between them. Higashi-Kanda/Bakuro-cho is famous for "Central East Tokyo" which was an art event in the vacant buildings or rooms from 2003 to 2010. Nishiki 2 is known for low carbon community development and renovation projects "Yebisu building project". It is found that Nishiki 2 is hollowing-out with increasing surface parking lots while Higashi-Kanda/Bakuro-cho is residentializing with urban housing developments, which has relation to the process of the revitalization activities in the two districts.
